Anna Lawrence

Anna traveled with us to Riga during May to pin her poems on the map for Punctum Festival in association with Birmingham Literature festival. She is a writer and lecturer in Creative Writing in the School of English. She read English at University College, Oxford, gained an MA in Children’s Literature from the University of Warwick and worked her way through a variety of jobs (including graphic designer and trainee prison governor) before committing to writing fiction. Before coming to Birmingham City University, Anna was a member of Writing West Midlands’s ‘Room 204’ Writer Development Programme and ran writing workshops across the region.

Anna is also Writer in Residence at the University of Gloucestershire, working on a project on writing and place. Her first novel, Ruby’s Spoon, was published by Chatto & Windus in 2010 and is set in a fictional Black Country town. She is working on two further novels, one of which combines her interests in the psychology of architecture, prison, the anchorhold and medieval spirituality.
